Besishahar is district headquarter of present Lamjung. The office of district headquarter was lifted from KUNCHHA to BESISHAHAR 36 years ago in 2028 BS (1971 A.D.). The denomination of Besishahar was derived from king’s seasonally migrationery movement Gaunshahar is a hilly high ground a cold place and Besishahar is comparatively a little flat and hot place. Both places are an adjacent localities. There has been a king’s palace at Gaunshahar called LAMJUNG DURBAR build by Shah dynasty, one can see even today from surrounding area. The surrounded area of Lamjung Durbar is called Gaunshahar only.
Tales of BesishaharDuring in good old days mostly those kings used to dwelled in Gaun but during winter season used to come down and dwelled at Besi and VIZ-A-VERSA this kind of moment is called Shar (shifting). But gradually abstracted its meaning towards town and started converting Gaushar and Besishar into Gaunshahar and Besishahar like that BESISHAHAR is a modern and famous name in Lamjung and within country side as well.
BOUNDRIESAs it has mentioned above that Besishahar is not only district capital and administrative headquarter but trade and fare centre located at the heart of Lamjung in perpendicular shape on the bank of Lamjung’s biggest and well known MARSYANDI RIVER flow from north to south and in the lap of Annapurna and Lamjung Himal at the attitude 800 metres above from the main sea level lies between 28’.10” and 28’.13” east longitude and 84’28” and 84’. 30” north latitude. It is bounded on the north by small stream called PUMA KHOLA and CHANDISTHAN village development committee (V.D.C.). On the south lower part of another main road to DUMRE and on the west upper part of MAJUWA KHOLA and LAMJUNG DURBAR on top of ascent hill side.
Temperaturea) Highest temperature in hot season reaches upto 30 degree ‘c’ during the month of April – May (Baisakh - Jestha) but not so hot, one can bear it easily.b) Lowest temperature in winter season falls upto 6 degree ‘c’ during the month of Jan – Feb (push – Magh) But not so cold, one can bear it easily.

People Besishahar being a district headquarter people from different part of lamjung especially those who are well off, who are government or non-government employees, similarly those who are working abroad and those local, population residing or occupying congenitally. Those politicians amongst the businessman, trades, hotels occupiers, labours and governments security elements, teachers and students are from various races and tribes such as Gurung, Brahmins, Newars, Tamangs, Magars, Kamis, Damai, Sarkis are find more as its kinds and identify amongst the peoples with different customs and different speaking languages. Amongst the languages from different parts of district and country as well Nepalese, Gurung, Tamang, Newar and Magar tongue are heard more frequently amids the peoples of lamjung are generally gentle ideal and polite.
POPULATION
Population of the town are about 8,000 out of this 49% are male & 5% are female according to the recent presumptive census. Besishahar is door and supply point for whole lamjung and Manang district. Besishahar town This town is lies in perpendicular shape south to north or tail to head or Shera bazaar to Manange chautara splitting town in two parts by a black top road in between and surrounded by unmetalled ring road Pumakhola (stream) is in North, Majuwakhola (stream) is in South biggest and famous river Marsyangdi in Lamjung is in the east and upper part of Majuwakhola (stream) in west and on its left on top of hill the descendant Shah dynast’y palace called “Lamjung Durbar” with a glimpse of the past storyAlthough Besishahar is a singular town but it has few prominent name within its localities. Once you crossed the bridge over upon Majuwakhola and enter into market area at the start. The place denominate Shera Bazar including its surrounding area. Similarly when you move few distance ahead in down area there will be find a culvert. The stream flow under neath is called JHINGE KHOLA like wise its surrounding area as well. Further at 50 metre ahead there comes a tri-road junction and when you looks on its right there is a temple called NARAYANSTHAN and the surrounding area also called Narayansthan. Further little ahead about another 50 metre there is a another small temple called BHIMSENSTHAN and surrounding are also called Bhimsensthan. Adjoining to this there had been a late king’s Birendra Bikram Shah Dev statue which was prepared to inaugurate by late king Birendra himself only. But left uninaugurated being assassinated him by un-identified assailant but the late king’s statue is still at the same spot as it is but during country wide agitation agitator group had destroyed a part from its neck leasing its tale with visitor eye and imagination. Once you cross Bhimsensthan immediately you will find “Rastriya Banijya Bank” of its left side of the road and the road leads ahead to Manange Chautara splitting main town in the center and the black top road terminates here manange chautara. There after the unmetalled road commence for Chame (headquarter of manang district).
